Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
There are two ways to know that Christmas is coming to Queens Gate London: lots of cafes in the area will have Michael Bublé on repeat, and you can just about see a massive Ferris wheel when looking towards Hyde Park.
There’s always a bit of excitement in the air at the end of November when walking through Hyde Park as you can see them build the different attractions and such for the Winter Wonderland. It has ballooned in recent years from a special Christmas Market to something akin to a fully-fledged Disney sized theme park in the middle of Hyde Park.
Thousands come to London in the lead up to Christmas not only to do their Christmas shopping but make a point of visiting the Winter Wonderland; in fact, little midweek trips with an overnight stay have become a pre-Xmas treat for many.
If you’re thinking of taking a trip to London to visit the Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park or happen to be staying with us here at Park Internationals and want to know everything about the event, we have you covered.
Here is everything you need to know about Hyde Park Winter Wonderland 2019.
What exactly is Hyde Park Winter Wonderland?
It is a pop-up Christmas theme park located in Hyde Park comprised of several different areas which include:
- Christmas markets
- Beer tents
- Santa Land
- Live performances
- Theme park rides
It is catered towards all ages, from a Santa’s grotto, all the way to Viking themed cocktail bars; something for everyone really.
When does Winter Wonderland open?
This year the park opens at 4 pm on Thursday 21st November. It will be open every single day from 10 am to 10 pm, except for Christmas Day. It closes on Sunday 5th January.
How much do tickets cost?
Anyone can come into the Winter Wonderland for free and go about as much as they want. The only tickets people need to buy are for the attractions and shows dotted around the park, and they vary depending on what you plan on doing.
What attractions are there are Winter Wonderland?
It’s claimed that there are over 100 different rides and games to try out while you’re there, but we haven’t tried counting them all before. There are four rollercoasters (which we think gives a good idea of just how big the park is), an 85-metre high drop tower, mechanical swings and even a VR ride called Dr Archibald.
You can also try your luck at dozens of different fairground style games and traditional rides like the carousel and helter-skelter.
What shows are there at Winter Wonderland?
When you see what they have in store for visitors, it makes your local Christmas market pale by comparison. Zippo’s Christmas Circus is always popular, while Cirque Berserk offers something exhilarating with performers carrying out death-defying stunts.
Kids can enjoy the fun of the Mr Men and Little Miss Show or Paddington on Ice, while select dates throughout December will see a small corner of the park become the Winter Wonderland Comedy Club.
Is there anything unique I can do at Winter Wonderland?
Yes. Winter Wonderland go out of their way to have something special people can try out every year. For 2019 you can book yourself into an ice sculpting workshop for anyone aged 12 and above. An expert sculptor will show you how to make your own unique sculpture, although we’re not sure if you’d be able to take it home with you without ice melting everywhere.
The workshop is priced between £56.50 - £64.50 per person.
How can I get to Winter Wonderland?
Less than 1km away from Hyde Park, Park International is one of the best hotels to stay at if you’re coming to London to visit the Winter Wonderland.
A short stroll down Queen’s Gate is lovely in the early evening, but if you’re planning on entering via Hyde Park Corner, you can hop on the tube at Gloucester Road station just across the road, ride three stops and be at Hyde Park Corner station in 10 minutes.
